History of Firestone, Colorado
Firestone, Colorado was named for local landholder, Jacob Firestone, and was incorporated in 1908. Little is known about Firestone’s roots, but the town likely began as an agricultural and coal mining community like neighboring Dacono and Frederick.
In the last decade, Firestone has experienced a significant rate of growth in both residential and commercial development. The town expects growth to continue with its prime location off I-25 as well as the town’s stable, safe and welcoming environment.
Prairie Ridge Elementary
Prairie Ridge Elementary provides a nurturing environment where students are instructed in a traditional curriculum with a focus on writing and math. The school also offers a strong arts program, and hosts an annual Art, Music and PE night for students and parents.
Coal Ridge Middle School
Firestone’s Coal Ridge Middle School centers its instruction on reading, writing, and mathematics. The middle school also offers MESA (Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement) to all students, and encourages minorities and females to become active in that field. Technology is integrated into each classroom, alongside a complete computer lab.
Frederick High School
Firestone Residents attend Frederick High School, located in nearby Frederick, Colorado. Frederick High School’s philosophy is founded on high academic expectations and offers a wide variety of courses. Frederick High not only provides an honors program, but also extends opportunities to advanced placement courses and even college courses through the University of Colorado at Denver. A brand new facility is scheduled to open in the Fall of 2012.
Firestone Fall Festival
A family-friendly event, Firestone Fall Festival is a day of live music, games and inflatables for kids, corn shucking, wagon rides, and barrel rolling! Many local vendors provide great food and shopping. Free to the public, held in October.
Carbon Valley Holiday Festival
The tri-cities of Firestone, Dacono and Frederick join together in December to host a day of holiday festivities. The day begins in Firestone with a Santa’s workshop with fun activities and crafts for kids along with a chance to visit with Santa and see real life reindeer. In the evening, residents enjoy a tree lighting in Dacono, complete with hot cocoa. Later in the evening, Frederick closes the festival with a dazzling light display, live music, cocoa and horse drawn carriage rides.
Movies in the Park
Each summer, Firestone hosts Movies in the Park. Residents gather together on the lawn to enjoy popular, family-friendly movies on the big screen. Free to the public.
Saddleback Golf Club
The Saddleback Golf Club, located in Firestone, is a challenging 18-hole classic golf course, open to the public. Saddleback offers a large practice facility complete with driving range and practice stations. Saddleback’s pro shop provides equipment and souvenirs.
